Dr. med. Andrija Karačić is a specialist in abdominal surgery with a deep research focus on the gut microbiome. He holds an MD from the University of Zagreb (2017) and completed his internship in Switzerland and KB Sveti Duh, Zagreb. His clinical work includes emergency medicine, leading to specialization in abdominal surgery. His interest in the microbiome started during his specialization and grew through analysis of people’s gut flora during the COVID‑19 pandemic. In 2021, he began a PhD in Biotechnical Sciences and in 2022 founded the Center for Gut Microbiome Research. He designs and leads scientific projects, and on the Littledot platform he offers interpretation of microbiome test results and personalized consultation.
Dr. Andrija Karačić is a medical doctor specializing in abdominal surgery, with a growing academic and clinical focus on the human gut microbiome. He earned his medical degree (MD) from the University of Zagreb in 2017, followed by internships in Switzerland and at KB Sveti Duh in Zagreb. Early in his career, he gained experience working in emergency medicine departments across Zagorje and Lika, which provided him with a solid foundation in acute care and diagnostics.
Driven by personal experience and a growing scientific curiosity, Dr. Karačić developed a strong interest in the gut microbiome during his surgical specialization. This interest intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he dedicated significant time to reviewing international scientific literature and conducting informal microbiome analyses within his community.
In 2021, he enrolled in a doctoral program in Biotechnical Sciences at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb, where he continues to develop his research expertise. The following year, he founded the Center for Gut Microbiome Research, with the mission of advancing both scientific understanding and practical clinical application of microbiome diagnostics.
Dr. Karačić has independently designed and led multiple scientific projects and has co-authored several international peer-reviewed publications. His work bridges surgery, microbiology, and personalized medicine.
